Lalibela: Eighth Wonder of the World

Lalibela

The small town of Lalibela is home to one of the world’s most astounding sacred sites: twelve rock-hewn churches, each carved entirely out of a single block of rock with its roof at ground level. Lalibela remains Number One on the list of must-see tourist attractions of Ethiopia. Bete Giorgis, or church of St. George, is the most beautiful and most photographed place in the entire Ethiopia.

Our shortest tour to Lalibela takes 2 days:

Day 1 – flight to Lalibela by Ethiopian Airlines, transfer to the town, then excursion to 12 rock-hewn churches. The excursion takes the entire day, with lunch break

Day 2 – return to Addis Ababa by morning flight.

It is possible to extend your stay in Lalibela up to 4 days, and visit more churches outside the town. Most attractive of them is the church of Yimrehanna Kristos (11th c.) Another good excursion is hiking in the mountains in the direction of Mount Abuna Yosef.
